Driver flees from trooper, crashes Cadillac into motorcycle, FHP says

Joshua Chia, 25, is accused of fleeing from a state trooper before he crashed his Cadillac into a motorcycle on Florida's Turnpike.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A central Florida man was arrested near Fort Lauderdale after he fled from a state trooper, who pulled him over for speeding, and crashed into a motorcycle on Florida's Turnpike, according to an arrest report.

WPLG reports Joshua Chia, 25, of Altamonte Springs, faces multiple charges, including reckless driving, fleeing and eluding causing injury and cocaine possession.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Chin was pulled over near Broward Boulevard after a trooper clocked his Cadillac traveling 105 mph in the northbound lanes.

The trooper smelled marijuana coming from inside the car and asked Chin to step out, but instead, Chin sped away, the report said.

Chin was eventually taken into custody after the Cadillac rear-ended a motorcycle a short distance away, the report said.

A New Jersey driver's license, two hotel room keys, a gambling card from Seminole Casino, a United Health Care card and $3,441 were found in Chin's pocket, the report said.

Chin was taken to Plantation General Hospital to be treated for his injuries and then booked into the main Broward County jail. The driver of the motorcycle was treated at the scene.
