Injured Orlando police officer needs spinal cord surgery

Officer William Anderson hurt in hit-and-run crash

ORLANDO, Fla. – There's been a setback for an Orlando police officer who was run over during a traffic stop last year.

The Orlando Police Department said Officer William Anderson will have to undergo spinal cord surgery.

OPD released a photo of Anderson on Sunday, saying he had to be airlifted to a specialty hospital in Gainesville.

Anderson was badly injured in July after being run down during a traffic stop, officials said.

The department said Anderson had been doing well, but his condition recently deteriorated.

Edward Kelty, the driver suspected of hitting Anderson, remains jailed on charges of attempted murder.
