Man drowns, son rescued off Daytona Beach Shores

Indiana man's name not released

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. – An Indiana man drowned and his 12-year-old son was rescued from the ocean off Daytona Beach Shores, officials said.

Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue Capt. Tammy Marris said someone called 911 Tuesday afternoon after being concerned about how far the man and the child were from shore.

Marris said lifeguards were able to bring the child to shore around 2:15 p.m. She said rescuers had to use a Jet Ski to get to the father, who was about 300 yards from shore.

The 58-year-old was unresponsive when he was placed in an ambulance. Marris said he was later pronounced dead.

The man's name hasn't been released as officials are working to notify his relatives.
