Men in van tried luring boys at bus stop with pizza, Volusia cops say

Patrols stepped up at Galaxy Middle School where boys attend school

DELTONA, Fla. – Volusia County deputies are searching for a gray van who they said tried luring an 11-year-old boy and his friends at a bus stop.

"It scares me. I mean that it happened here. My heart is pounding," said Cynthia Grandshaw.

Neighbors along Newmark Drive in Deltona are on alert since investigators said a van with three men pulled over on Thursday, opened the door and offered pizza for the boys if they got inside the van.

Instead, the 11-year-old told his father who called 911.

"I think it's absolutely disgusting," said one parent.

Parents who picked up their kids from the bus stop on Monday were also concerned.

"I have a grandson that has the same bus stop and we do have our eyes and ears out and we're watching, so I just hope whoever it was, they get caught," said one parent.

Deputies said they have since stepped up patrol at Galaxy Middle School where the boy attends. The school district also told News 6 it is working closely with law enforcement and is following their safety protocol.

"We've got crime all over, you just got to be awake," said Grandshaw.
