Kissimmee Police Department to issue tickets to kids

Ticket will earn kids free Slurpee drink from 7-Eleven

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Kissimmee officers who observe youngsters doing a good deed or being safe will ticket them with free Slurpee coupons from 7-Eleven as part of Operation Chill.

Kissimmee officers started to hand out tickets this week. The program will continue for the next few months, while supplies last.

This year marks the 21st anniversary of Operation Chill. The program was started by 7-Eleven to encourage and reward good behavior by children during the summer.

Because of its popularity and success, Operation Chill has expanded past the summer and is done through the school year as well.

“The Kissimmee Police Department has been involved with Operation Chill® since the program’s inception in 1995," Chief Lee Massie said in a news release. "The coupons are a great icebreaker for the officers patrolling the community. It’s a way to encourage dialogue between the officer and the youngsters in a non-threatening, non-law enforcement situation."
