Victim taken to hospital for emergency surgery

PALM BAY, Fla. – A taxi cab driver was shot five times early Tuesday in Brevard County, according to police

Palm Bay police said Stephen Davis, 31, called 911 after he was shot while operating a cab for Call-a-Cab Inc.

Emergency responders found Davis inside a taxi in the median of Babcock Street near Dawn Street.

Police said Davis had several gunshot wounds in his left arm and torso area and was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center for emergency surgery.

He was "awake and nodding," in the hospital later on Tuesday morning, officils added.

Police said the shooting occurred at the Walgreens on the corner of Port Malabar Boulevard and Babcock Street.

The motivation for the shooting was not immediately available.

No arrests have been made.
