Daytona Beach votes to relax marijuana rules

City leaders approve new ordinance

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Another Central Florida city has voted to relax the rules about marijuana possession.

Daytona Beach city leaders voted unanimously Wednesday night on a new ordinance.

The new measure gives police the option to hand out tickets to anyone caught with 20 grams or less of the drug, rather than arrest them.

The ordinance is similar to recent changes made recently in Orlando and Volusia County.

Wednesday night's vote was a first reading, and a public hearing is set for June 1.
