Firearm, badge, other items stolen from unmarked police vehicle, Sanford police say

Person broke into vehicle in parking lot of Rob Sullivan Park, cops say

DeBARY, Fla. – Sanford police say someone broke into an unmarked police vehicle and stole a firearm, badge and ballistic vest.

It happened between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. while the vehicle was parked in the parking lot of Rob Sullivan Park at 200 West Highbanks Road in DeBary.

Police said a person broke the rear window of the unmarked Sanford police vehicle and stole a number of items inside.

Among the contents of stolen items were a police-issued Sig Sauer 9mm handgun, gold Sanford police investigator badge, tactical vest with ballistic panels, Motorola radio microphone, handcuff key and the officer’s personally owned Remington 870, a 12-gauge shotgun, Sanford police said.

Citizens should be aware of the possibility of police impersonation. Police said they are encouraged to contact local law enforcement in the event they encounter any officer without proper law enforcement identification.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimeline at 800 423-TIPS (8477). Police said calls made to Crimeline are anonymous and tips to Crimeline that lead to solving a felony case are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
