Sanford police investigate after guns stolen from unmarked cruiser

Detective could face discipline

SANFORD, Fla. – Sanford police say they have launched an internal investigation after guns and other police gear were stolen from one of their cars.

Investigators say someone smashed the window of the unmarked cruiser at Rob Sullivan Park in DeBary, then made off with several items including a handgun and shotgun.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, a detective had taken his car to the park to attend a softball tournament. Sanford police officers though are only allowed to use their department vehicles if they are on call. If the detective was not, he could face discipline.
