Moped driver dead in Orange County crash, FHP says

FHP: Driver of Hyundai failed to slow down for moped making left turn

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A moped rider has died after being rear-ended by a car on Friday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The incident happened at 2:30 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Bumby and Kaley avenues.

Troopers said a Hyundai vehicle was traveling behind a moped as both vehicles went south on Bumby Avenue.

As the vehicles approached Kaley Avenue, the moped slowed to make a left turn on to Kaley. Troopers said for some reason, the driver of the Hyundai failed to slow down, and the front of the Hyundai struck the rear of the moped.

The driver of the moped was ejected onto the Hyundai's windshield, troopers said. According to the FHP's report, the driver of the moped was wearing a helmet at the time.

The moped driver was pronounced dead at Orlando Regional Medical Center, troopers said. The driver of the Hyundai was not injured.

Troopers said the crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending.
