16-foot vessel capsizes near Key Largo

KEY LARGO, Fla. – Six people were rescued by a U.S. Coast Guard Station Islamorada boat crew and a good Samaritan from a capsized boat Saturday.

The Coast Guard said three people were reported to have minor injuries and were transported to emergency medical services.

At noon Saturday, Station Islamorada received a distress call from a person clinging to the hull of a 16-foot capsized boat requesting assistant. Coast Guard Sector Key West was notified and issued an urgent marine information broadcast. A boat crew from Station Islamorada and an MH-65 helicopter crew from Miami were sent to the capsized boat.

Upon arrival, the boat crew pulled the six survivors from the water and recovered the hull of the capsized boat with the assistance of a good Samaritan.
