Judge: Mom who drove kids into ocean not taking medication

Ebony Wilkerson in jail for violating her conditional release

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – The mother who made headlines for driving a minivan into the ocean with her three children inside is booked in the Volusia County Jail for violating the terms of her conditional release.

Ebony Wilkerson was found not guilty by reason of insanity for the 2014 crime caught on camera.

As part of the agreement, she was ordered to get treatment at a mental health facility in Lake Wales.

Prosecutors filed a motion last week claiming she is not following the rules of her conditional release. Wilkerson made her first appearance in Volusia County court Saturday morning, where the judge announced what the state claims she did wrong.

"The allegation is you violated your conditions of pretrial release by not taking your medicine," the judge said.

This also comes after police were called out to the facility last week saying she suffered some sort of episode.

Wilkerson was arrested in Orange County on Wednesday. Prosecutors are not telling News 6 why she was there or how she got to Orange County.

She was transferred to the Volusia County Jail on Friday. The judge says she will remain there until a hearing is scheduled to review her case, including these latest allegations.
The state attorney's office says the status conference hearing is set for sometime next week.
