Marion County preps for Tropical Storm Colin by launching Alert Marion system

Rain moves in Central Florida as Tropical Storm Colin churns off coast

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Marion County launched another tool that will help residents get results and get through Tropical Storm Colin.

The Alert Marion system is sponsored by a statewide program called Alert Florida, but emergency management officials in Marion County rebranded it locally and launched it Monday as bands of Tropical Storm Colin came through.

Tropical Storm Colin will bring heavy rain and strong winds, along with the risk of tornadoes, and that's where officials say Alert Marion can help.

Alert Marion is a call list where a resident can get a text, email or phone call if a severe weather threat is approaching.

"I think every single citizen in Marion County needs to sign up for this program, it's that vital we can tell people that may be in a certain subdivision, 'hey we think there will be a tornado that might drop down we have some tornado warnings that are coming in we need you to be prepared,'" said Lauren Lettelier with Marion County Sheriff's Office.
