Tree crashes through Winter Park roof after TS Colin brings gusty winds

News 6 pinpoints rain after Tropical Storm Colin makes landfall in Fla.

A large tree came crashing through the roof of a home after Tropical Storm Colin brought gusty winds to the area early Tuesday.

Emergency crews were called to the two-story duplex on the 400 block of Clay Street around 2:30 a.m.

Firefighters said a large tree limb fell from a 40-foot tall oak tree and onto the duplex, car and power lines.

Two people were asleep inside the building when the tree fell and were uninjured.

"I looked up on the side of the house, (it) took half the roof off.  It fell on the car and that was it," said Ricky Dinkins.

Dinkins, who lives on the bottom floor of the duplex, said his unit wasn't damaged, but the tree left a hole several feet wide in the living room ceiling of his upstairs neighbor.

"You hear about this thing happening," said Dinkins.  "When it happens to you, it's a whole different ball game."

Workers with Duke Energy restored power to the neighborhood around 8 a.m.

Firefighters said tenants will be able to continue living in the duplex as repairs are made.
