USA batters Costa Rica in Copa América

Longwood native scores goal in win

CHICAGO – After a less-than-inspiring first game in Copa América, Team USA needed a big win to improve their chances of moving on to the knockout stage.

The team would get an early start after Clint Dempsey capitalized on a penalty kick in just the eighth minute of the game.

From there the flood gates would open with Jermaine Jones and Bobby Wood adding goals of their own to make it 3-0 at the end of the first half.

Things would only get better in the second half after Longwood native Graham Zusi would add a fourth goal just 17 minutes after being subbed into the game.

Team USA won 4-0. They will take on Paraguay in the final game of group play this Saturday.

If the USA wins, they will move on to the knockout stage.

If you want more Copa America action Wednesday night, Brazil will take on Haiti at Camping World Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
