Emergency calls released in attempted abduction

Man tried to abduct 13-year-old girl from store, authorities say

CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – Investigators have released new information about an attempted abduction in South Florida.

A 13-year-old girl avoided being kidnapped Tuesday after a man tried to snatch her in front of her mother.

It happened inside a Dollar General store, police said.

Police released emergency calls made by workers as the situation was unfolding.

"I had a customer who was in here and he tried to grab a child. I was right there," said an employee who was inside the store.

An off-duty Citrus County deputy who was outside the store caught the suspect, Craig Bonello.

He has been arrested in the past for trespassing and attacking an officer.

Bonello is charged with kidnapping and child abuse in connection with Tuesday's incident.
