Search continues for Cocoa gunman shooting at vehicles while riding bicycle

COCOA, Fla. – Audio from a 911 released by police Friday described the moment a woman witnessed an unidentified man riding a bicycle and shooting at cars on U.S. 1 in Cocoa.

"He's out there shooting," said the caller. "He's on U.S. 1 headed toward Dixon."

The shooting prompted police Thursday night to close U.S. 1 southbound lanes between Dixon Boulevard and Michigan Avenue from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

"He's going south," continued the 911 caller. "He's on a bicycle in all black and had a red book bag."

Fortunately, neither the woman who called 911 or any other drivers were hit, but the man did get away.

Cocoa police say he left his bike and ran into the woods.

A search began but officers came up empty.

Cocoa police shared that news on their Facebook page.

"I wish we had more officers riding and patrolling neighborhoods and streets. Random criminal acts would be lowered," Jackie Lewis commented.

Police say witnesses tell them the man they're looking for is black and they have his bike.

If you know who he is, you're asked to call Cocoa police.
