3-year-old struck, killed by vehicle in Orlando driveway

Police investigation continues

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 3-year-old was struck and killed Thursday night by a pickup truck that was backing out of an Orlando driveway, according to police.

Orlando police said Hector D. Rodriguez-Meija, 32, was backing a silver 2003 Dodge Ram out of a driveway on Solandra Drive near Semoran Boulevard, a residential area behind an elementary school, when the child was hit.

The child, identified by police as Allison Rodriguez, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

According to police, Rodriguez-Meija was unaware that Allison was standing near his vehicle.

"I saw a bunch of fire trucks and cop cars, and I'm like, 'What's going on?' and I asked one of my neighbors and they said there was a little girl that, you know, got ran over, and I'm like, 'Oh, my goodness, that's just horrible,'" neighbor Cleo Duselme said.

A police investigation is continuing.
