Woman pulled by Jaws of Life after striking utility pole in Sumter County

Woman taken as trauma alert to ORMC

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A woman was injured Wednesday night when her car struck a utility pole on County Road 573 in the Center Hill area.

Officials said they arrived at the scene to find a 76-year-old woman trapped in the vehicle. She was declared a trauma alert because of the severity of her injuries.

Rescue officials took 19 minutes to extract the woman from her vehicle using the Jaws of Life.

The woman was flow to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where her condition is unknown.

The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
