39 people rescued by Beach Safety Ocean Rescue Sunday


VOLUSIA BEACH, Fla. – Beach Safety Ocean Rescue had 22 water rescues Sunday with all 39 victims returned to shore safely.

Medical calls included heat-related illnesses, strokes, seizures, fractures, lacerations, stingray stings and other minor injuries.

Ormond had a few sections of beach only accessible by four-wheel drive vehicles.

New Smyrna and Daytona had a few brief closures due to reaching capacity. The approaches later reopened.

Authorities remind everyone that fireworks are prohibited on the beach, and can be detrimental to the environment and animals.
