Motorcyclist killed in Port Orange crash, police say

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – Police are investigating a crash that left a motorcyclist dead Sunday evening.

The Port Orange Police Department said the operator of the motorcycle, Robert Franklin Finzel, 61, was traveling north on City Center Parkway around 5:45 p.m. when he left the road for unknown reasons and was thrown from the bike. The bike landed on top of him.

Police said Finzel, who did not appear to be wearing a helmet, was taken to Halifax Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the crash remains under investigation by the traffic homicide unit.
