Vehicle taken from Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford

SANFORD, Fla. – A man was arrested Tuesday after he stole an ambulance from officials at Central Florida Regional Hospital, authorities said.

A firefighter EMT was in the back of the ambulance while a Sanford Fire Department rescue truck was unloading, officials said.

James Weldon Sessions, 43, got inside the ambulance around 4 p.m. and took off, Sanford police said.

The firefighter EMT in the back of the ambulance was able to get out at some point, officials said. The firefighter EMT is not believed to have been injured.

The ambulance left the hospital and fled down State Road 46 while officials followed him, police said.

Sessions got out of the ambulance at a dead end on Jewett. He was arrested and was taken into custody.

Sessions told a judge on Wednesday that he is bi-polar, has mental issues was seeing a psychiatrist.

He was issued a $2,500 bond, and his next court date is August 2.
