FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A Flagler County man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated child abuse over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The two children -- a girl and a boy -- ran to a neighbor’s house for help after their father allegedly physically, emotionally, and verbally abused them, according to authorities.

The neighbor told deputies that the children had come to her house a week prior and told her that their father had been kicking, slapping and hitting them in the head, face, chest and legs, the report said.

Deputies said the children also told the neighbor that their father, Jason Moffit, and his girlfriend were in a physical altercation in front of them.

The neighbor created a safety plan to come to her if they were ever hurt again.

The children escaped to the neighbors home at 2 a.m. on July 2 and told her when Moffit arrived home he was unhappy with the outcome of the chores he assigned to them.

The son explained to deputies that he was punched, slapped, kicked and hit, officials said.

Moffit then “forcefully cut ad shaved his head,” the report said.

The sister had her waist-length hair cut above her shoulders, according to the report.

Deputies said both children had bruises on their bodies.

Moffit  was taken to the Flagler County Jail and faces charges of aggravated child abuse.
