Husband tracks down estranged wife, shoots other man, Port Orange police say

Thomas Higginbotham arrested in Edgewater, charged with attempted murder

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – A man tracked down his estranged wife at another man's Port Orange house and opened fire, striking the man before fleeing on a motorcycle, police said.

Police said Thomas Higginbotham, 50,  shot the other man around 11:45 p.m. Monday in the 5400 block of Frederick Lake Drive in Port Orange.

The victim was shot in the arm and suffered a non-life-threatening injury, police said. Higginbotham's estranged wife was not injured.

According to police, Higginbotham somehow found out where his wife was and confronted her and the other man in the pool. Higginbotham fired shots at the pair, and the man ran through his home and to a neighbor's home seeking help, police said.

Higginbotham fled the scene on what was believed to be a black Honda motorcycle, police said. He was arrested near Edgewater just after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

He has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, shooting into an occupied residence, armed burglary and possession of a firearm while committing a felony.

No other details were immediately known.
