PORT ORANGE, Fla. – A convicted sex offender is being held without bond after Port Orange police say he hurt an officer while attempting to escape.

Police say when they tried to arrest Phillip Heidt, 26, on Thursday he jumped into a vehicle and drove off, running over an officer's foot in the process.

Heidt was later found and arrested in some nearby woods. The officer was not seriously hurt.

Police say they arrested Heidt after he was accused of exposing himself to an 11-year-old at a Walmart on Tuesday.

He is currently being held in the Volusia County Jail.
