Boy rescues friend's dog from Lake County house fire

'God is watching over us,' friend says

CLERMONT, Fla. – A Lake County boy is being called a hero after he ran into a house that was on fire to help save his friend's dog.

"I saw my friend Jordan waving, and he has the dog. I'm like 'Oh, my gosh' and gave him a big hug. I swear, God is watching over us. I left the back door open the other day, and that's how he got in and saved our dog," said one of the boys who lived in the house.

Firefighters believe lightning caused the fire.

The family who lives in the home says neighbors have reached out to offer them a place to stay.
