Cops: Body of missing Leesburg woman likely taken to Ocala National Forest

2 charged with second-degree murder of Leesburg woman

LEESBURG, Fla. – Leesburg police said on Wednesday that they believe the remains of the woman reported missing last month were likely taken to the Ocala National Forest.

Two people have been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Bernadine Montgomery, but her body has not been found.

Montgomery was reported missing on June 22, but the murder is believed to have happened a week prior.

Police said they believe Montgomery's body was likely taken to an area within the Ocala National Forest west State Road 19 between northern Marion County and Putnam County, south of Palatka.

According to police, it is unlikely that Montgomery's remains would be in the same location, so authorities are asking those who visit the forest in that area to report anything suspicious in nature.
