JSO: Man stabs girlfriend after she admits to cheating

Man turns himself in after deadly stabbing at trailer park, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 40-year-old man stabbed and killed his longtime girlfriend at a Westside mobile home park Tuesday after she admitted to cheating on him and "insulted his manhood," police said.

Lt. Steve Gallaher, with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, said Jose Sevillano-Montanez is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Maribel Perez-Ortiz, 38.

The two, who are from Puerto Rico and lived together at the Country Roads Trailer Park on Townsend Road, had been dating for over three years, Gallaher said, and Sevillano-Montanez believed Perez-Ortiz was cheating on him.

He confronted her about it after she came home late Monday night and he saw a car leaving the driveway that he did not recognize, Gallaher said. She at first denied his accusations, but after a long argument, she admitted to cheating on him, insulted his manhood and left the mobile home, Gallaher said.

He followed her outside to her car, and the argument continued. He then went back into the kitchen in the mobile home and brought out a knife, Gallaher said.

She told him she wasn't scared of him and insulted him again, Gallaher said. That's when Sevillano-Montanez stabbed her in the chest while she was sitting in the car, Gallaher said.

He left her there, drove to a police substation at Blanding and Wilson boulevards and turned himself in at the front desk, Gallaher said.

Perez-Ortiz's teenaged children found her and called 911. She was taken to a hospital, where she died, Gallaher said.

Sevillano-Montanez has been booked into the Duval County jail.
