All clear after suspicious truck prompts concern at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – The all-clear has been given by military officials after concerns about a suspicious semi-tractor trailer prompted a traffic shut down at a Cape Canaveral Air Force Station gate, News 6 partner Florida Today reports.
Authorities said that something aboard the truck alerted as a possible explosive device, officials reported.
“We were assisting with traffic control,” said Cpl. Jay Martinez, spokesman for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office earlier before the gate was reopened. “There was a truck there that seems to be suspicious,” he added.
The incident was first reported about 8:45 a.m. Thursday at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station's building 1061 on the base. The security alert came just minutes after the launch of the Atlas V rocket. Visitors and others had to park and wait for several hours as security precautions were carried out.
Several police dogs and agents with the FBI were also at the site. No other information was available.
