Orange County Clerk of Courts: Don't forget your money

$320K in issued checks unclaimed

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – More than $320,000 in unclaimed checks are just days away from being forfeited to the Orange County Clerk of Court.

Tiffany Moore Russell said her office found 6,000 checks issued but never cashed including one for a hefty $8,000.

These are funds linked to “court-related activities,” including jury duty and restitution for civil or criminal cases.

“More than likely it could be that they received the check and misplaced it or they moved and failed to provide us with a forwarding address,” Moore-Russell said.

Anyone who thinks they have a claim to money held by the Orange County Clerk of Courts must contact the Clerk's Office before Sept. 1, to get a reissued check.

According to Section 116.21, Florida Statutes, regarding unclaimed court-related property, if a claim is not made against these funds by September 1, 2016, the funds will be forfeited.

The current list can be found on the clerk’s website at: www.myorangeclerk.com.
