Bullet pierces mom's van on busy Volusia County road

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – There were a few scary moments for a mother of three around 9:30 Tuesday night.

"Now I'm going to be reminded every time I open that door. Every time my children open that door," said Sonia Bolles.

It's a reminder that Bolles would like to forget.

"Very scary," she said.

Bolles was slowing down at the stop light near the Walmart when it happened.

"We were traveling down West Granada to pick up my daughter and I had my 8-year-old daughter in the back seat. We heard a very loud noise. A gunshot or something," she said.

The mother of three pulled over into a nearby shopping center where her daughter works and got out of her van to take a look.

"There was a bullet hole in the side of my van and came all the way through. Luckily, my son wasn't in the car at the time. He usually sits in the front seat," she said.

Bolles called 911 and said she heard the shot and her van shook.

Investigators returned to the scene Wednesday afternoon to recreate what happened and look for the bullet which was found lodged in the center console.

Bolles said her family is OK but wants others to be aware.

"Someone can just be randomly going around town shooting into vehicles for no apparent reason? We want to know who did this," she said.

Police are now reviewing surveillance video from nearby stores to see if they can locate the shooter.
