VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Thousands of students will be going to school in uniforms, a first for Volusia County.
Some parents said it's their last weekend to buy or exchange to get what they need.
"We're returning these because they're navy blue and the school wants royal blue," said Marissa Smith.
Other parents are struggling to find the right size.
"I'm having a little problem because she's so tiny. I have three uniforms so no, I'll be good for next week," said Jennifer Stoll.
Families are packing the stores to get last-minute uniforms before the first day of school.
"The uniforms are cool because it's good for a change," said third-grader Logan Smith.
But that change has parents asking the Volusia County School District some questions about what is and isn't allowed.
"Districtwide the color is white. It can either be a polo shirt or an oxford style shirt. Then every school has selected two additional colors," said Nancy Waite, a spokeswoman for the district.
The district said parents also have many questions about what pants to buy.
"As long as your bottoms meet the color requirement and of course the length requirement, they're probably okay," said Waite.
Polo-style dresses or oxford shirt style dresses in the shirt colors are also allowed. However, there are a few things that are not tolerated.
"No rips or tears, no skin tight clothing, the yoga pants and things like that," said Waite.
Stores like Target said, uniforms have been flying off the shelves for months.
"It's pretty diminished, especially when school is starting now. We're just trying to get that replenishment in as soon as possible for our guests," said one Target employee.
Stores said parents can also find uniforms online.
Some of the major retailers who carry uniforms include Walmart, Kohl's, Old Navy and Target.
