Sheriff's Office lieutenant's department-issued firearm stolen while on vacation

Identification, badge also stolen

A Lake County Sheriff's Office lieutenant was on vacation when his work and personal items were stolen, including his department-issued firearm.

Lt. John Herrell was on vacation with his family earlier this week, when his badge, identification, department-issued firearm and other personal items were stolen.

"Due to the fact this is another agency’s active investigation, we have no further details to release," a Lake County Sheriff's Office spokesperson said.

A report was filed with the Fernandina Beach Police Department, where Herrell and his family were vacationing.
