Orange County considering bear-proof trash cans

ORLANDO, Fla. – Following similar moves by Seminole County, Orange County leaders are now planning to take measures to cut down on human and bear encounters.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Orange County plans to apply for a $25,000 Fish and Wildlife Commission grant to help residents buy bear-resistant trash cans.

In addition, the county would match the grant with $25,000 from its general fund.

Bear-resistant bins can cost up to $300 and must work with the county's newly implemented automatic solid waste pickup.
