1 killed in SR 528 crash as Hermine moves through Florida

Multiple accidents reported on I-4, SR-528

Crashes have plagued Central Florida roads on Friday, snarling traffic hours after Hurricane Hermine hit Florida.

On State Road 528, a fatal crash blocked two westbound lanes in Orange County at milemarker 16, west of State Road 417 just before 7:30 a.m.


FHP said the driver of a Dodge SUV lost control of the vehicle while getting on the 528 ramp from SR 417, traveled over the westbound lanes, struck a guardrail and overturning before hitting a palm tree.


The driver, identified as Franco Vargas Soto, 26, had minor injuries and the passenger died at Orlando Regional Medical Center. The passenger has not been identified.

Meanwhile, in Seminole County, a crash shut down westbound Interstate 4 at milemarker 93, backing up traffic until State Road 434 just before 12:30 p.m. 

A tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 4 near Par Street in Orlando on Friday morning has blocked eastbound traffic, the Florida Highway Patrol said. 

This is the second crash involving a tractor-trailer near Par Street this morning. The first crash occurred early Friday morning and had westbound traffic backed up. 

Meanwhile, another crash on I-4 near State Road 50 in Orlando on Friday morning blocked eastbound traffic.
