Police investigate attempted child luring in Daytona Beach

Police report man tried twice to lure girl

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A man tried twice to lure a 12-year-old girl into his car Wednesday, police said.

The first time, she was walking home from school and the second time, she was at a 7-Eleven.

"This same gentleman approached her again. He was in a red, small, four-door vehicle, and he opened the door and asked her if she would give him oral sex for money," Daytona Beach police spokesman Jimmie Flynt said.

He said the victim's family friend saw her talking to the suspect, who is described as a white man in his 40s, and decided to confront him.

That's when the situation turned violent. The man hit both the victim and the family friend with his car before driving away. Both suffered minor injuries, but are expected to be OK.

"There was also another witness up there who says this guy frequents the area all the time," Flynn said. "I'm sure someone probably knows who he is and we would like them to give us a call."

He said the convenience store has security cameras, but they didn't capture much since the incident happened on the side of the building.

This isn't the first attempted child luring case reported in the area. Police are investigating two other cases in Ormond Beach. None of those suspects have been caught yet.
