Resources available for Hurricane Matthew victims

Each county has information to help you get results

Hurricane Matthew caused widespread damage when it hit Haiti, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and parts of North Carolina.

The storm caused millions of dollars in damage in Flagler and Volusia counties and left million of people without power across the state.

The hardest-hit counties with numerous power outages included Brevard, Volusia, and Flagler.

There are resources available for hurricane victims seeking assistance in Volusia County.

In Volusia County, residents can call 211 and they will be directed to a place that can offer assistance. The Salvation Army in Daytona if offering assistance with electricity bills and rent. 

Additionally, the organization's volunteers are providing food and water at these locations:

• Pierson Community Center, 124 W. Washington Ave., Pierson
• Dollar General Store, 107 N. U.S. 1, Oak Hill
• Publix, 1850 Ridgewood Ave., Holly Hill
• EVAC building, 112 Carswell Ave., Holly Hill

Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dinner is served from 4 to 6 p.m.

Mobile canteens are roaming among HUD homes in Port Orange and mobile home parks in west Volusia.

On Wednesday at the Salvation Army in Deland food will  be handed out from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. On Thursday, meals will be offered from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

News 6 helps 'Get Results' 

News 6 helped one man 'Get Results' for his mother after Hurricane Matthew.

Stephen Grey's mother, Yvonne, was in need of her insulin medication. Her medication and food perished after the power outage from Hurricane Matthew. 

"I didn't really know what to do until you guys came over here. I didn't really think all of this would be going on if you hadn't of come. I really appreciate it," Grey told News 6 reporter Vanessa Araiza.

"Honestly, the most fearful for me is on my God the insulin. Okay, because when that's gone I have none, Yvonne Grey told Araiza.

SNAP benefits 

Any SNAP customers that live in Brevard, Orange, Lake, Marion, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia counties received an early deposit for October effective Oct. 7.

This also includes Baker, Broward, Citrus, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Glades, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Indian River,  Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Nassau, Okeechobee, Palm Beach, Polk, Putnam, St. Johns and St. Lucie.

Customers in Sumter County received an early deposit for October on Oct. 8. This also includes Alachua, Bradford, Columbia, DeSoto, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hardee, Hamilton, Hillsborough, Levy, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Suwanee, and Union counties.
