1 dead, 1 found shot inside Melbourne home

Police investigate incident at home near Hendren Drive, Autumn Woods Drive

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Melbourne detectives talked with neighbors and other potential witnesses after a report of gunshots led to the discovery a body and a shooting victim in a home late Saturday.

Police gave few details about the deadly incident.

"We're still looking into the circumstances at this point. Our detectives are still over there," Sgt. Brian Hart of the Melbourne Police Department told News 6 partner Florida Today.

Patrol officers were called about 9:30 p.m. Saturday to a single-family home near the intersection of Hendren Drive and Autumn Woods Drive.

"It was a neighbor who called it in," Hart said.

Patrol officers searched the home and found a body and a person seriously wounded.

The wounded person was treated by paramedics and taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center for further treatment.

Police did not identify the shooter, but said it appeared the shooting was initiated in the home.

No suspects were being sought.

The names of the two people shot were expected to be released later.
