Bicyclist killed in Seminole County accident identified

Bicyclist thrown from bike when struck by vehicle, troopers say

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A bicyclist died in an accident Saturday in Seminole County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said the crash happened at 11:55 a.m. on Oregon Street, near Veracity Point.

A vehicle was traveling south on Oregon Street as a bicyclist traveled in front of it, troopers said. 

Witnesses told troopers the bicyclist suddenly pulled in front of the vehicle. That's when the front of the vehicle struck the left side of the bicycle, troopers said.

FHP identified the cyclist as Joseph Michaud, 68, of Apopka.

Michaud, was wearing a helmet and thrown off the bicycle, according to the FHP. Troopers said he was taken to Central Florida Regional where he was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation.
