Man shot in Daytona Beach dies after calling 911, police say

2 arrested after standoff in Port Orange

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A man who was shot in the chest in Daytona Beach died after calling 911, and two people were arrested after a standoff in Port Orange, police said.

The fatal shooting was reported late Monday at an apartment building on North Lincoln Street.

Daytona Beach Deputy Police Chief Craig Capri said a man in his 20s called 911, saying he had been shot. The man was able to provide some information to authorities, but he died on the way to a hospital, Capri said.

An investigation took police to Port Orange, where residents of an apartment were ordered to come out of their home, Capri said. After about three hours, two people surrendered around 5 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

Daytona Beach police later said the incident was likely drug-related.

Five children inside the home were placed in the custody of their grandparents, Capri said.
