Suspended student arrested after fighting with school official, deputies say

Another student tries to interfere with arrest, deputies say

PALM COAST, Fla. – A suspended student was arrested after he fought a school resource deputy who was attempting to remove him from the Matanzas High School campus, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office. 

Damien Thompson, 18, was suspended after a confrontation with another student around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday. Deputies said he refused to comply when school officials tried to de-escalate the situation.

School resource deputy John Landi told Thompson he would be trespassing if he didn't leave the campus, but when he still wouldn't comply, Landi attempted to remove him.

Deputies said Thompson fought with the deputy in the school courtyard, leaving the deputy with minor scrapes and scratches. Thompson was arrested along with another 15-year-old student who tried to interfere during the arrest, deputies said. 

Thompson is charged with trespassing on school property, resisting an officer with violence, battery of a law enforcement officer and battery of a school official.

The other student is charged with resisting with violence.
