Sting reopens terror-hit Bataclan in Paris

Moment of silence observed before performance

PARIS – The Bataclan music venue in Paris reopened with a performance by the British singer Sting a day before the first anniversary of the terror attack that killed 89 concertgoers there.

"We've got two important things to do tonight. First, to remember and honor those who lost their lives in the attacks a year ago and to celebrate the life and the music of this historic venue. So before we begin, I would like to ask that we observe one minute of silence. We shall not forget them," Sting said.

Sting had said he wanted to "remember and honor those who lost their lives in the attack a year ago" and to "celebrate the life and the music that this historic theatre represents."

The Bataclan was attacked by three gunmen on the night of Nov. 13, 2015, during a performance by American rock group Eagles of Death Metal.

It was part of a coordinated series of attacks across Paris, claimed by the ISIS militant group, which left 130 people dead. The venue has remained closed since then.

Sting, former frontman of The Police, said all proceeds from his show on Nov. 12 would be donated to Life for Paris and 13 Novembre: Fraternité Verité -- organizations supporting the victims of the attacks and their families.
