Infant, 2 women slain in Florida shooting

Police close down several roads in Northwest Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Three people, including an infant, have died following a shooting in Jacksonville.

At least one other person was shot in the Sunday night shooting, which happened on Cleveland Road in a parking lot across the street from the Cleveland Arms Apartments.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Director Ron Lendvay said the first call came in just after 6 p.m. A short time later another call came in from the fire station, reporting multiple people shot in a car.

Police said one woman was dead in the car and a second woman, a man and a baby were taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where the child and woman died.

"I heard gunshots. After the second round, I came to check on my family because we stay out here," a neighbor told WJXT-TV. "I came out here and I saw a lot of people around, a body on the ground. It was crowded and everybody was just screaming, 'She got shot; she got shot.'"

Shortly after the shooting, another woman walked into the hospital with a gunshot wound, but police are yet sure if that was connected.

"It's heartbreaking to know that an infant was shot and killed," Lendvay said. "Yes, it's a sad day for Jacksonville; it's a sad day for everyone who lives in this area and it's a sad day for those that are out here investigating this terrible crime."

Officers said the violence began after an argument, but they haven't figured out what the argument was about. Police closed off Cleveland Road, Moncrief Road and Myrtle Avenue during the investigation.

Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
