MOUNT DORA, Fla. – A Lake County man is accused of trying to meet up with what he thought was a 14-year-old girl he'd been chatting to online, but was actually an Osceola County detective, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
Gunner Artibee, 24, began talking on Sunday night on the social media site MeetMe.com with a detective who was posing as 14-year-old Eva, deputies said.
After sending a few messages online, the pair switched to text messaging Monday. Artibee asked Eva to send pictures almost immediately, according to the arrest affidavit.
The conversation then took a turn when Artibee started asking Eva if she wanted to "have a lil fun" and if she was interested in older men, deputies said.
Eva told Artibee that she was only 14 and was not sexually experienced. Artibee made plans to meet the teen at a Walmart in Mount Dora, the affidavit said.
Upon arrest, Artibee admitted to deputies that he had been speaking to a 14-year-old girl named Eva online, but said that he wasn't going to actually meet her, he just wanted to know if she was real.
Artibee was arrested Monday. He is charged with traveling to commit sex acts with a minor and attempted lewd and lascivious conduct.
