ESTERO, Fla. – A passerby shot and killed a man who was beating a deputy on the side of I-75 in Estero, according to NBC-2.

When the man did pull over, he got out of his blue Toyota, pulled the deputy out of his car and then repeatedly kicked and punched him, reports said.

A man driving by who saw what was happening approached the scene with his gun and began shouting for the attacker to stop. Witnesses said the deputy yelled "shoot him, shoot him, shoot him," when the man wouldn't stop beating him.

The man was shot and killed at the scene. The deputy is expected to recover.

It's unknown at this time if the man was a good Samaritan or an off-duty law enforcement officer.
