MELBOURNE, Fla. – A robbery outside Melbourne Square Mall Tuesday afternoon turned into a shooting when the victim fought back, Melbourne police said.
A man, woman and child were parked outside the south side of the mall near the food court when a gray Dodge Charger with black rims pulled up. The driver of that vehicle, described as a man in his 20s with short hair and a beard, pointed a gun at the female passenger and demanded money.
Police said the man then approached the driver, but the driver got out of his vehicle and fought with the man. The gunman fired one shot at the victim, officials said. The victim wasn't shot, but he did fall and hit his head. He sustained a minor cut and was treated at the scene.
The gunman sped away from the area after the shooting.
"At this time, the relationship between the victim and the suspect is being researched by detectives," Melbourne police said. "We do not believe that the public is in any danger at this point and we believe this incident is isolated between the parties involved."
