ORLANDO, Fla. – A man and a woman were arrested Monday in the suspicious death of a strip club manager in Altamonte Springs, police said.
Mandi May Jackson, 21, and Scott Michael, 30, were arrested in Orlando and found with property belonging to the victim, James Mulrenin, 52, police said.
Authorities confirmed the suspects are in a relationship.
Deputies responded to the Lofts at Uptown Apartments on Dec. 14 and found Mulrenin with severe wounds after he fell from his fifth-floor balcony, according to police records.
Deputies were responding to reports of a man jumping from his balcony, but when they got there they found Mulrenin also had a gunshot wound to his leg.
Mulrenin was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he later died.
“When you are an investigator you look at something and you think, ‘OK this is what it looks like,’ and then you start to do digging,” Altamonte Springs public information officer Evelyn Estevez.
Estevez said the detectives were able to uncover several suspicious circumstances surrounding Mulrenin's death during their investigation.
Detectives said they believe Mulrenin was trying to get away from something happening inside his apartment when he fell from the fifth-story balcony.
“He jumped trying to get away from them, so at that point they are responsible for his death,” Estevez said.
Mulrenin's furniture was moved around inside his apartment as though there was a struggle of some kind, Estevez said.
Detectives determined Jackson went home with Mulrenin from the Dollhouse strip club, where he was a manager, the night before his death.
Surveillance video shows Love also entering the victim's apartment, but Estevez said investigators do not think Mulrenin knew Love was there.
The suspects were seen on video using the victim's credit card days after his death, detectives said.
News 6 asked if the whole thing could have been a setup. Estevez said it's possible but police are still working out the details.
Jackson and Love are charged with burglary, felony murder and fraud.
Both suspects are being held in Orange County Jail awaiting transfer to Seminole County.
