COCOA BEACH, Fla. –
A man was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of soliciting a detective posed as a 14-year-old girl for sex via the Kik app.
Detectives posted an online billboard to start a conversation and received an email from Robert Bowen, 32, on Dec. 28.
Once the detective started e-mailing with Bowen they exchanged Kik usernames to communicate via text messages.
On Thursday, Bowen stated that he “wished to meet the person,” which was an undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old girl, police said.
Police said Bowen told the “minor” that he wanted to have some fun and he was asked to elaborate on that. He sent back a sexually suggestive message to the “minor.”
Bowen agreed to meet the person, who he thought was a minor, and drive from his home in St. Cloud to Cocoa Beach.
Bowen is charged with travel to meet after using a computer to lure a child, and lewd and lascivious conduct with a child under 18.
He is being held on $35,000 bond in the Brevard County Jail.
