Pedestrian struck, killed trying to cross State Road 434, police say

LONGWOOD. Fla. – A pedestrian is dead after getting struck by a vehicle while attempting to to walk across State Road 434 early Sunday morning, Longwood police said.

The Longwood Police Department responded to the area of State Road 434 and Ichabod Trail around 6:30 a.m.

Upon their arrival, officers learned that the pedestrian, for unknown reasons, was trying to walk across the road when the driver of the vehicle hit the pedestrian, according to the police report.

Officers said the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

The westbound lanes of State Road 434 were closed for nearly two hours while officers completed an on-scene investigation, but have since reopened. The investigation is still ongoing.
