Driver dies after slamming into Orange County home, FHP says

No injuries reported to occupants inside home

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man died after slamming into a home Sunday in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The FHP said Jonathan Rivera, 37, of Orlando, was driving a Hyundai SUV west on Whisper Lakes Boulevard around 2:35 p.m. when he lost control of his car.

Troopers said the SUV traveled off the road, through a ditch and a fence, and struck a house at 2792 Whisper Lakes Club Drive before overturning.

Rivera died at the scene, troopers said.

No injuries were reported to any occupants of the home, which was deemed unsafe by a building inspector.

"I'm in there watching the (football) game, and next thing I heard was boom! Like, it was loud," neighbor Rodney Lewis said. "It was a huge, huge noise, man. It, like, literally scared me."

It's not known if Rivera was impaired, but a closed bottle of alcohol was found in the SUV, officials said.

"I went to my neighbor's house and I talked to him and he was, like, 'Yeah, man, the car just -- it was going fast and then the next thing you knew, it jumped up into the air and it hit the roof,'" Lewis said.

The crash remains under investigation.
